About Us
In 2007, the eBay Green Team started as a grassroots effort by a small group of passionate eBay employees who wanted to make our company a truly green place to work.
Since then, we've accomplished a lot — from small actions like eliminating Styrofoam cups in break rooms to much larger efforts like encouraging eBay to build a large solar installation at our San Jose, California headquarters. We've grown into a group of more than 2,000 eBay employees in over 23 countries, all supporting environmental causes in local communities and promoting sustainable business practices within eBay.
As the world's largest marketplace for used, refurbished and vintage goods, eBay's biggest opportunity lies with its buyers and sellers—the millions of people that make up the eBay community worldwide. So in March 2009, we invited the eBay community of buyers and sellers to join in our efforts. After just six weeks, the Green Team was 100,000 members strong, and we're still growing. We want to harness the power of our community to help the world make smarter, greener shopping decisions.
Join us in making a positive impact on the world.

Amy Skoczlas Cole
Director, Green TeamAmy Skoczlas Cole’s passion for the natural world started in kindergarten, when she first wrote an essay on her love for koala bears. After studying environmental policy in college, she joined the staff of Conservation International (CI), where she turned her passion into a career, much to the surprise of her parents. At eBay, she leads all the different aspects of the company’s environmental strategy. What excites her most, though, is tapping into the collective power of the 89 million people who use eBay to make a real difference in world. That’s why she loves running the eBay Green Team, building a movement to help consumer save money and the planet at the same time – by using products that already exist in the world. As the mom to a active toddler, she’s also enjoying every minute of re-discovering just how awe-inspiring this planet is by seeing it through young eyes.
What piece of advice do you have for someone who wants to "go green"?
A greener lifestyle should feel like a trade-up, not a trade off. Don’t think about it as an additional item on your overloaded to do list. Instead, consider adopting a new way of thinking… where are the things coming from that I am using, and who am I buying them from? Where is it going to go when I’m done with it? How can I use things that already exist, instead of asking the planet to make me a new one? Just think about what will happen if the 100,000 people who belong to the eBay Green Team do that!

Libby Reder
Head of Environmental InitiativesLibby co-founded the eBay Green Team. She recognizes the collective power of what a passionate group of people can do, something she saw first-hand early in her career when she shaped policy on Capitol Hill. She helps eBay employees green the company from the inside out, and loves this opportunity to talk green whenever she can. She’s a leading force behind the Green Team's In Action partnerships and collaborations.
Most recent green eBay purchase or sale:
I bought a great vintage necklace from the 1960s that is both “green” because it’s used and green in color. But my favorite green eBay purchase was an old, wooden slotted drawer from a printing press that I use as a jewelry organizer. It still has its helvetica italic label!

Lorin May
Lorin May oversees eBay’s employee Green Team, a group of more than 2,300 employees around the world who support environmental causes in their local communities and promote more sustainable business practices at eBay. Before joining the team, Lorin worked with mining and oil companies as a consultant at Business for Social Responsibility. When not greening eBay from the inside out, Lorin can be found pretty much anywhere but in her kitchen.
What's your favorite eco-friendly find that you can't live without?
One of my first projects at eBay was ordering reusable eBay Green Team-branded water bottles for members of our employee Green Team. Distributing the bottles was a logistical nightmare, but I’m happy we did it. The bottles were a hit, and many of us use them every day.

Annie Lescroart
Annie Lescroart spends most of her days tracking down great green stories that lie within the boundaries of the eBay universe. And with 89 million users, 25 million sellers, 100,000 Green Team members, and 15,000 employees…that makes for quite a bit of detective work. When she’s not working, you can probably find her scampering up a hiking trail somewhere in the San Francisco Bay Area, cooking in her tiny but effective kitchen, or on a plane flinging herself into a new and unexplored destination.
Why are you a Green Team member?
Because I believe in baby steps, and when I see people take them, it makes me happy. On the Green Team, we are all about baby steps. There is a belief out there that to live a “green lifestyle,” you have to trade your beloved SUV for a hybrid, give up hamburgers forever, and spend a fortune on organic everything. You don’t. Commit to one small thing that works for your lifestyle, like driving less or using a reusable coffee mug for your daily Starbucks fix, then go from there!

Ashwin Seshagiri
Ashwin Seshagiri is a recent member of the eBay Green Team, but has been thinking about what it means to be green for a long time. As a Bay Area native, he's been working in green media for the past few years in and around San Francisco. But he's had a wandering spirit ever since his parents plopped him on a plane at six months old, and is always on the lookout for any opportunity to travel the world. He's particularly fond of the street food you can find across the globe that would probably be considered gourmet food in fancy restaurants back home.
What's your green guilty pleasure?
I love me a good, long hot shower. (I try my best not take long ones though... most of the time)
