Supporting Greener Employees
The eBay Green Team started out as an employee group — just 40 colleagues getting together to talk about how to make eBay a greener company. Today, more than 2,400 employees are members, representing 23 countries around the world.
The Green Team works on projects to make eBay's operations more environmentally friendly, including reducing energy and water consumption; encouraging lower impact commuting; reducing the use of consumable/disposable products; bringing more sustainable food into its cafes; and getting involved with local communities.
eBay is also helping its employees — offering a variety of incentives and discounts, such as installation of residential solar arrays and the purchase of personal carbon offsets. We also operate commuter shuttles at several of our locations to improve employee quality of life while simultaneously minimizing environmental impact.
And, inspired by the Green Team's inside out force for change, eBay collaborated in 2009 with nonprofit Net Impact to release "Making your impact at work: A practical guide to changing the world from inside any company." The guide features 13 case studies of internal change-makers (including our very own Green Team member Hilary Sinclair) and includes a step-by-step framework that individuals can use to be a force for positive change inside their organization.
